


2.4 Million Dollars to be used to support innovative approaches to literacy at our Endeavor Campus!
A huge congratulations and thank you is in order to JZ and the team for the time and effort ensuring our kids have access to the best resources.
The grant is focused on four key pillars to support literacy development of our students. You can read the full abstract or narrative or budget narrative here.

1) Access to Diverse Books→
Creating a library filled with books that are Racially, Ethnically, Culturally, Disability Status and Linguistically Responsive and Inclusive; creating book distribution methods to increase our student-to-book ratio from 2:1 to 20; renovation budget to turn Endeavor Library to a “real” library and media center

2) Access to a Library Media Specialist (LMS)→
Salary and benefits for a full-time Librarian to provide consistent access to books of choice and foster a love of literacy.

3) Implementation of Literacy Best Practices→
Providing LETRS Training and stipends for teachers to ensure that students receive research-based instruction; salary and benefits for two full-time reading interventionists to serve grades K-8.

4) Literacy-Focused Parent Engagement→
Establishing Family Literacy Nights to equip parents with knowledge and literacy resources to support children at home; take-home bags for each Literacy night include, manipulatives 2-5 books annually; A partnership with Start at Zero and the Kansas City Public Library.
While the direct impact of this grant will impact our Endeavor campus. Legacy campus will feel many indirect positive impacts, to highlight a few:

Our Endeavor students become our Legacy students - the positive impact of the wrap-around approach to literacy will pay off in proficiency levels and orientation towards reading/literacy of our students in the future .

A significant focus of the grant is supporting, partnering with and educating families - our families span across our campus and the focus on and strategies to build literacy at home have applications to students in all grades

The proto-typing and lesson learned from Endeavor can and will be applied to Legacy

ASSIST TRANSPORTATION SERVICES
We are launching this initiative in collaboration with Assist Services. Assist Services is looking for Staff, Family, Alumni, and Friends of KIPPKC that would be excited to provide daily transportation to and from school a small number of students each day.
